Leigh and James Beautiful Black and White Edinburgh Wedding

Leigh and James had a gorgeously simple colour scheme for their wedding. Just black and white.

Now I'm a girl who loves colour - I can get lost thinking about a thousand summery shades of pink, blue and purple - but it was really refreshing to do some flowers that were just black and white. Simple and beautiful. Plus, you know how much of an anemone obsession I have (not to mention ranunculus) so I was super happy when Leigh said she wanted to have both.

We used white ostrich feathers and pinned Leigh's grandmothers brooch to the handle of the bouquet to give it a little bit of vintage glamour. Leigh and James got married in the Rowantree in Edinburgh, for those not acquainted with it, its a wonderfully atmospheric space with lots of exposed stone and candles, so it was nice to keep the flowers very simple.

Making James' buttonhole made me fall in love with buttonholes all over again - I used white ranunculus, broom and eucalyptus for a really natural feel. And we decorated the lovely cake with more anemones, ranunculus and broom. I will confess, it was hard to resist taking a bit out of the back and covering it with a strategically placed flower....

I have so much more pretty to show you very soon my lovelies, I'm going to try and get blogging more regularly as once a month just won't do! Xx

PS. All the photographs were taken by the immensely talented Lillian and Leonard (read more here). They are pretty amazing, and if you are reading this from London, you need to *go hire them right away*. Its pretty great getting to work with your besties on lovely weddings like this one.

The Utterly Amazing November Photo shoot at House for an Art Lover

Hello lovelies,

I thought it was about time I drop by my poor neglected blog and do a bit of writing. I've been up to all sorts of exciting stuff this year already, like weddings and photoshoots and generally running around between Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen like a crazy person! So its only right that I tell you about it all. But just rewinding for a second, today's post is all about a fantastic photoshoot I worked on last November, with one amazing (and huge!) team of lovely wedding people.....

We chose the beautiful House for an Art Lover in Glasgow's south side as the setting for our shoot - the gorgeous interiors and mix of pale and subtle and some quite dramatic decor was the perfect place to showcase our 1930s and 1950s inspired designs. I love all the little details there, from the beautiful stained glass and painted wood, to the quirky light fittings. All the images from the shoot were from a fantastic team of three (yes three!!!) photographers - the wonderful Kristin of Struve Photography, Zoe of Zoe Campbell Photography and Lindsey of Mack Photography. Our models were Emily Morton, Caeley Elcock, Jamie Hillen and Omar Zingaro Bhatia.

We had hoped to take some pictures of our gorgeous models in the grounds of House for an art Lover, but as it was raining that day we ended up with some rather nice film noire-esque images taken in the beautiful Beauford car kindly lent to us by Nuvo Limousines

There were a lot of colours to take into account with the flowers, as Wendy of Flossy and Dossy had designed a beautiful collection of dresses in scarlet, teal, burgundy, mustard and cream. I decided to make a selection of different bouquets to go with the different dresses - some matched, and some contrasted the colours in Wendy's designs. In the end, we swapped the bouquets around quite a lot and had some happy surprises with the different contrasts between all the flowers, dresses and accessories.

A few gold sequins finish off this bouquet with a bit of a shimmer - I didn't want to overdo the decoration as the beautiful head pieces and jewelery made by Gioia Mia were wonderfully sparkly already.

I decided to make two striking tied boutonnieres (thats *fancy* for buttonholes) for the boys, both made from seasonal materials but entirely different. I used a "green eye" rose with black viburnum berries, scabious pod and yellow mimosa for Jamie, and ranunculus, ornithogalum and purple eucalyptus for Omar. Our gorgeous male models wore suits from A Suit That Fits who lent us some delicious vintage style suits. The girls were flawlessly made up by the lovely Sophie Edwards and their hair was expertly styled by London Ross.

I just love using unusual flowers and the green eye roses were fab - I adore their textured green centres and thick rows of petals. The green eye roses provided a good contrast with the softer, more delicate winter flowers I used like anemone, ranunculus and clematis. I also made a romantic alternative to the modern overarm bouquet, using delphinium, queen anne's lace, green eye roses and ranunculus, with plenty of eucalyptus (my favorite foliage). Tied with a blue and white deckchair striped ribbon, this was one of the most summery bouquets. We'll just ignore the fact it was mid-November, freezing cold and pouring with rain.....a girl can wish for summer can't she?

The colours in Flossy and Dossy's dresses and Gioia Mia's jewelery were also echoed in our lovely invitations by Caroline Hill Wedding Stationary. Caroline used ribbons and coloured inks to bring out the shoot colours and used plain cream card for a classic finish.

We also had the loan of a fantastic gramophone from Butler and Taylor - it looked great in the stylish surroundings at House for an Art Lover and the dark wood really complimented my favorite bouquet of the whole shoot - this deep red and purple number. What can I say, I'm a sucker for those beautiful red, burgundy, purple and cerise shades! And I got to use all my favorite winter flowers like amaryllis, anemone and ranunculus alongside gorgeous purple seeded eucalyptus which is always a pleasure.

You can read even more about this lovely lovely photoshoot over on Love My Dress where we were all delighted to be featured and check out the other contributors' perspectives on the shoot too - Gioia Mia, Flossy and Dossy, and Mack Photography have all blogged about the shoot. This was my first photoshoot and it was thoroughly exciting and great fun! Since the shoot I've worked with some of the lovely suppliers involved, and I can't wait to work with the rest very soon!

Just before I sign off, a quick reminder that I'll be exhibiting at the Glasgow Wedding Collective Vintage Style Wedding Fayre at Hillhead Bookclub in Glasgow's west end this Sunday! I would love it if you stopped by to say hello!

Signing off for today Xxx

Romantic Red at Glasgow Art Club

Morning lovelies! I realise that some of you may have seen this wedding already over on the wonderful Love My Dress, but I thought it was high time I shared it with you anyway! This was the last wedding of 2011, both for me and Lillian and Leonard who shot the whole gorgeous caboodle. Finishing the year off by delivering flowers to Glasgow Art Club couldn't have been nicer - for those not acquainted with the Art Club, its a lovely private art gallery housed in one of the gorgeous old town houses on Bath Street. The walls are covered in carefully collected paintings, from local artists work to some quite famous stuff too. As you can see from the photos, the interior is beautiful!

Amy had chosen a mix of gorgeous red flowers - roses, amaryllis and ranunculus for her own bouquet, and roses, ranunculus, anemones and skimmia for her bridesmaids. We tied all the bouquets with big bows of lush, wide velvet ribbon. The buttonholes were simple - delicious, open red roses. If you'd like to see more, have a look here, and here.

I've got so much more to tell you about over the next wee while, I've been busy like a bee preparing for some of the most amazing weddings and I can't wait to show you what I've been up to very soon!
